What exactly was the first Bitcoin transaction?

For many years, the well-known story of 10,000 bitcoins buying a $25 pizza has been widely circulated. This story is also known as the first physical transaction of Bitcoin.

But that didn’t seem to be the case with Bitcoin’s first transactions.

In May of this year, developer @udiWertheimer posted a tweet and shared a screenshot of the bitcointalk forum, proving that the first Bitcoin transaction in history was the purchase of a JPEG, earlier than the famous Bitcoin pizza incident. https://x.com/udiwertheimer/status/1657822781625475080?s=46

500 Bitcoins to buy a JPEG?

A user named Sabunir in the forum sold a photo for 500 BTC on January 24, 2014, with help from the anonymous Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.

I found out the source of this screenshot, a pilgrimage place👇

Cryptocurrency investor @MikeMcDonald89 later questioned the purchase, suggesting it could have been a donation.

I found a forum conversation from that year, one month after the original post was posted on February 24, 2010.

It can be confirmed that the first Bitcoin-JPEG exchange in history was a donation "These may be used freely by all, but I will graciously accept donations: 1BHtsCnpmTvpgJEP7eMKEVhpJFunxSM8vq" - original source. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=45.msg479#msg479l

Donation or purchase, it doesn’t matter today many years later. The exchange of 500 BTC for JPEG has become a fact. This may be the first JPEG exchange of BTC that we know of. I don’t use the word NFT here. This transaction is just a picture. itself, and there are obviously two donations this time, "I thank those two who have donated to me. You did "made my day", and encouraged me to make artwork for Bitcoin" Document source, Sabunir wrote at the end of the post : Also, I would like to thank the two people who donated to me. You made my day and inspired me to make art for Bitcoin.

What is JPEG SAT?

@Magisat_io gave the following explanation: Satoshis involved in the possible first bitcoin trade for an image on February 24, 2010.

I think this definition is inaccurate. In the original forum post, we did see Satoshi Nakamoto leave multiple messages, but the terms trade and image here are ambiguous.

I think JPEG SAT should be defined as: the first Bitcoin used for art in human history.

How many JPEG SATs are there?

In the current information and trading markets, it is shown as 50 Billion, which is 500 Bitcoins.

However, it is not!

As mentioned above, Sabunir's post on February 24, 2010 finally mentioned that there were two donors on that day, which means that two address transactions were generated.

I found the block on February 24, 2010, Block42258-Block42432, and based on Sabunir’s address 1BHtsCnpmTvpgJEP7eMKEVhpJFunxSM8vq, I observed that this address received two Bitcoins on this day, and the Transaction was 63a48cd42a1da4ef21fbce9a9a1073f6030d932 a103023a633c24fdca3e092bb https://mempool.space/ tx/63a48cd42a1da4ef21fbce9a9a1073f6030d932a103023a633c24fdca3e092bb

One is 100 Bitcoins, the other is 500 Bitcoins.

Therefore I judge

The total amount of JPEG SAT should be 60B, or 60 billion.

This is a very brain-intensive popular science research post. Thank you for your patience in reading this. Every SAT has its story. There is a high probability that the corrected data I published will not be adopted by the big shots. I just hope that you can work with it. In the process of exploring together, I learned about the charm of Bitcoin. I will count the number of JPEG palindromes next time I have time.

After seeing a post from thirteen years ago, Sabunir wrote at the end: I thank those two who have donated to me. You did "made my day", and encouraged me to make artwork for Bitcoin. I feel the shock and exploration of history. The warmth that resonates with readers.

If you think I have helped you, I accept any donation from you bc1phgjlteaslgxnselthqlchlxe7f2tk9k02t4xy4e0lluknqp53mlqhjr7z6

I hope that today, thirteen years later, I can also say: Thank you to those who donated to me. Made my day and encouraged me to make art for Bitcoin.

It's two o'clock in the morning here, which is perfect for dreaming
