X (formerly Twitter) has taken another step towards resolving its legal issues and returning to Brazil. With the help of Caixa Econômica Federal, the company was able to correct the error in depositing its fine, which will speed up the social network's return.

Still, the microblog's lawyers insist that they deposited the amount into the account indicated by the STF.

X pays fine to the STF

The most recent step in the imbroglio occurred when X tried to pay a fine imposed by the Supreme Court of R$28.6 million. However, the company deposited the money in a Caixa Econômica Federal account instead of one at Banco do Brasil.

With this issue resolved, the Supreme Federal Court confirmed the payment. Thus, the next step is an analysis by the Attorney General's Office (PGR). Finally, Minister Alexandre de Moraes will evaluate this opinion and determine the future of the freeze.

The ban on the former Twitter account occurred at the end of August, due to non-compliance with court orders. In short, the platform chose to close its office in the country at the beginning of that month, but the Supreme Court ordered the social network to appoint a legal representative in the country, in addition to paying fines for failing to comply with account blocking orders.

This specific case concerns the blocking of accounts with posts relating to accounts with posts that made threats to delegates.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, refused to comply, which resulted in the platform being removed from Brazil. Alexandre de Moraes then ordered Tesla, another Musk company, to pay the fine, blocking its accounts.

At first, Elon Musk tried to fight the blockade with posts on X. However, the strategy proved ineffective and he decided to comply with the legal requirements.

Microblogging orphans migrate to new platforms

With X banned, users who missed a similar social network chose to look for alternatives. The one that benefited the most from the ban was BlueSky.

Meanwhile, Meta’s Threads has also seen new users. Decentralized alternatives like Mastodon have also seen new users, especially those from the crypto community.
