Latin America surpasses Asia in crypto transactions

A study by Chainalysis exposed the impact of cryptocurrencies in Latin America, where the region recorded almost US$425 billion in crypto transactions between July 2023 and June 2024. Thus, Latin America represents 9.1% of the global crypto market.

Chainalysis reported that the region ranks above East Asia in terms of cryptocurrency receipts, with the second-fastest annual growth rate at 42.5%. This growth is driven particularly by Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela.

In this sense, four of the top 20 countries in crypto adoption are Latin American: Brazil (9), Mexico (13), Venezuela (14) and Argentina (15). Stablecoins are the most widely used crypto asset category in the region for sending and receiving remittances.
