OpenSea: Can you tell us a little bit about your artistic style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?
Cryptic Poet: My main art style is meme inspired animations that blend 2D cartoon elements with playful twists, I also create digital surrealism that incorporates pop culture with a focus on community, additionally I like to use popular meme templates to create my own versions which I also mint as NFTs.
OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT series or work?
Cryptic Poet: My creative process begins by analyzing on-chain trends and brainstorming to come up with concepts that resonate with the community. I focus on ideas that fit the spirit of "Based on" and develop these concepts into compelling works of art. I constantly observe the community's preferences and adjust my future creations based on feedback.
OpenSea: Can you talk about any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, especially in the digital realm of NFTs?
Cryptic Poet: The on-chain space is highly competitive and requires constant innovation. One of the challenges is attracting a diverse audience from different backgrounds and experiences. Creating work that resonates with everyone can be challenging because it requires finding the right balance to appeal to people broadly without offending anyone, which makes it crucial to stay focused and inclusive during the creative process.
OpenSea: What inspired you to create on Base? How do you think Base’s features will benefit your artistic expression?
I was attracted to Cryptic Poet: Base’s strong community following and Jesse Pollak’s visionary leadership, and its low fees, fast transactions, and “get your feet wet” ethos provide me with an ideal platform to deeply engage with my audience and experiment with my art.
In addition, being incubated by Coinbase (one of the largest and most compliant exchanges) makes me confident in the success of Base. Coinbase's track record and the possibility of bringing millions of people on-chain during the next bull run made me choose it without hesitation. Base can definitely become the first entry point for many newcomers to enter the on-chain world through Coinbase.
OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you create art?
Cryptic Poet: Blockchain has changed my art by enabling direct, transparent interaction with audiences. It allows me to create NFTs that provide unique experiences and benefits, facilitating real connections between creators and collectors. The decentralized nature eliminates middlemen, and smart contracts open up innovative possibilities such as dynamic or interactive art. This technology allows me to push creative boundaries and build an active community around my work.
OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through NFTs on OpenSea? Are there interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?
Cryptic Poet: I plan to engage my audience by creating NFTs that resonate with specific communities and themes, providing unique experiences tailored to these groups. By granting access to exclusive content (such as whitelisting for future releases and special events), I can identify and reward true fans. This approach aligns with my vision of an interconnected on-chain ecosystem where NFTs are a means of personal expression and community engagement, seamlessly integrating our digital and social lives.
OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you most, and how do you plan to incorporate these developments into your future projects?
Cryptic Poet: I really enjoy generative art and hope to explore it further, and while I haven’t tried it yet, I’m eager to learn and create something on Base, perhaps I’ll create a piece of generative art that stems from or is built around previous work, this exploration could open up new avenues for my creativity and interaction with my audience.
OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collectible?
Cryptic Poet: I would say immerse yourself in community, stay curious, focus on authenticity, interact with other artists and collectors, and connect with your audience. There is really no wrong way to make art. I have a saying I always say: "If it's art and it falls apart, it's still art." Meaning, embrace experimentation and don't be afraid to fail. Every step of the way is a beautiful experience.
OpenSea: Where do you think digital art and NFTs will go in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?
Cryptic Poet: I think the future of on-chain art and NFTs is closely tied to meme culture and community representation. Many meme projects on Base are creating NFTs (usually PFPs) that people proudly display as their social profile pictures, symbolizing their community membership and support.
In the future, I envision NFTs becoming the primary way to express identity and belonging, and NFTs with communities, memes, or interests will showcase personal beliefs and support, leading to a more interconnected and vibrant on-chain ecosystem.
My goal is to contribute by creating engaging, meme-based NFTs that foster a sense of belonging and identity, helping to build vibrant, connected communities that thrive on shared values and creativity.
