FSOCIETY claims that it successfully bypassed Bitfinex's security measures and gained access to 2.5 terabytes of information, including the personal information of 400,000 Bitfinex users. However, Bitfinex CTO Paolo Ardoino took to social media to address the situation directly, saying, "Everyone is panicking about a possible database breach at Bitfinex. In short: it looks fake." Ardoino noted that Bitfinex's storage systems lack plaintext passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA) secrets. Ardoino also noted that the leaked data may have been collected from various crypto breaches, and that many users tend to reuse the same email and password combinations across multiple platforms.
