Former Ethereum developer Virgil Griffith, who was sentenced to 63 months in prison in 2022 for aiding North Korea in using blockchain technology, has requested a sentence reduction. The plea, made by his attorney Glen Garrett McGorty, is based on new U.S. sentencing guidelines that offer a two-point offense level reduction for certain "zero-point" offenders. Griffith, who was also fined $100,000, is argued to qualify for this reduction, potentially shaving a year or more off his sentence. The court is requested to order a revised pre-sentence investigation report and schedule a resentencing hearing.
