A mining farm with an income of $300,000 over two years was shut down in Astana

Specialists from the AFM of Kazakhstan are investigating the fact of illegal cryptocurrency mining. The farm with almost 1,300 ASIC miners operated under the guise of an engine processing center in Astana.

According to the case materials, from 2022 to May 2024, the suspects were mining digital assets without an appropriate license. The total value of the cryptocurrency they mined exceeded 143 million tenge (~$300,000).

“The farm consumed energy comparable to the monthly need of one residential area of ​​a large metropolis,” the AFM reported.

Law enforcement officers seized ASIC miners, industrial cooling fans, and a transformer substation.

In total, seven sentences were handed down in Kazakhstan in 2024 for the illegal circulation of digital assets. Property worth over 1.2 billion tenge (over $2.5 million) was seized.
