[ICP Agreement promotes blockchain participation in Africa]
Nigerian youths are urged to actively participate in blockchain technology to increase global competitiveness.
Adedayo Adebajo, co-founder of ICP Hub Sahara, highlighted the importance of blockchain technology at the second DecaHack event held at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. DecaHack is a program hosted by ICP that offers online blockchain bootcamps, hackathons, and live competitions to win prizes. Adebajo noted that failure to embrace blockchain technology will have serious implications for the future of the country.
Internet Computer is a public, smart contract-backed mainnet blockchain on which developers can build decentralized applications (DApps) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The event brings together innovators, experts and blockchain enthusiasts from across Africa to drive technological advancement on the continent through discussions, showcases and exchanges.
In a talk titled “The Future of Interoperability: How Web3 Innovators are Bridging the Gap between Blockchains and DApps,” Arbitrum’s Web3 Ambassador Ucheena Agams analyzed how Web3 innovators are solving the interoperability problem. He highlighted the potential of Web3 technology to create seamless connections between different blockchain platforms and demonstrated the importance of front-end development in designing website and application user interfaces.
Organizers of the competition announced that the top five startups will receive equity-free grants of up to $25,000. The winner will also advance to the National Finals, the most important blockchain hackathon conference in Nigeria. In addition, all finalists will receive consulting support, mentorship, and the opportunity to apply for ICP grants.
By encouraging Nigerian youth to engage with blockchain technology, the program aims to prepare them for future success in the global digital economy. This proactive step is expected to promote technological innovation, contribute to nation-building, and ensure that Nigeria remains competitive in the rapidly growing technology industry.
