This balance means the network can only sustain operations for around two years at current spending levels. The report states:

“At the current rate of spending, the Treasury can only sustain operations for about two years, although the volatile nature of cryptocurrency-denominated Treasury bonds makes it difficult to predict with certainty. hard."

During the first six months of this year, Polkadot invested heavily in its ecosystem, spending 11 million DOT, worth about $87 million, on various projects.

According to reports, the network has invested approximately $37 million in Outreach activities such as advertising, sponsorships and events. The network has signed a sponsorship deal with racer Conor Daly and is also promoting a number of marketing activities designed to drive adoption of the network by the wider global community.

Polkadot also spent $23 million to develop network features and upgrades, including SDKs, Data Services and Indexing, Administration, and Subwallet.

Furthermore, the network invested $15 million in liquidity incentives and $5.5 million in Talent and Education. Additionally, the network spent $3.8 million on maintaining the network and core ecosystem components, and another $2.1 million on Research.

Revenues fall

The report highlights Polkadot's revenue decline. During the first six months of the year, the network's total income decreased from 414,291 DOT recorded in the second half of 2023 to 171,696 DOT.

Enenkel attributed this decrease to a significant decrease in network fees, from 313,443 DOT last year to 39,444 DOT in the first half of 2024:

“We see that direct revenue from fees is still low. Polkadot earned 300,000 DOT in fees in the second half of 2023 from a short-term registration campaign. Fees under normal conditions are quite stable at around 20,000 DOT per quarter. Other sources of revenue are typically transfers from refund accounts that they have received and refunded for various reasons.”
