The YouTube channel of Seven Network, a major Australian broadcaster, has been compromised with videos showing deepfake Elon Musk crypto scams. 7News' YouTube channel was rebranded to look like automaker Tesla and showed an AI-generated spoof of the company's CEO saying he was distributing cryptocurrency.

At the time of writing, a total of 150,000 people were watching three livestreams featuring the fake Musk on the 7News channel. It is unknown how many viewers became bots to increase the number of viewers.

AI-faked Musks touted a common “double your money” scam that promises to send back double the amount of any cryptocurrency. Links to the 7News YouTube channel were broken, but the hijacked channel still showed the news organization's verification mark.
