EigenLayer's X account was hacked on October 18, when it posted a fake airdrop campaign. The post directed users who were eligible for the previous campaign to a malicious link unrelated to EigenLayer's recovery protocol.
EigenLayer's X post was deleted just minutes after it went viral, suggesting the hacker may have lost access to the account.
Onchain investigator ZachXBT warned users on Telegram about the malicious airdrop link, advising against clicking it. Given the popularity of EigenLayer, the link may have attracted many people.
EigenLayer is the second largest protocol on Ethereum, with a TVL of over $11.1 billion according to DeFiLlama.
Previously, after conducting airdrops for a long time (about 3-4 months), the eigen token started to "rush" to be listed on major exchanges such as Binance, OKX, Bybit, ... and officially launched the token.
This made many airdrop winners "lose sleep" waiting for the token price when it was listed and it seemed that the eigen price met the community's expectations when there were not many negative reactions.
