Bitfinex exchange has been hacked
There are many allegations that the Bitfinex exchange has been hacked. The attacker published a list of user emails to prove that they hacked Bitfinex. The Tether CEO, who is also the CTO of Bitfinex (2 companies run by the same group of people) stated that this appears to be fake, we still don't know the truth:
Paolo Ardoino: The database hack at Bitfinex appears to be unfounded. The data the hacker shared had only a few matches to Bitfinex users, and the company does not store passwords in plain text. Bitfinex suspects that this data comes from previous cryptocurrency hacks, as reuse of login information is common. There were no signs of any compromise detected in their systems, and they confirmed that all funds are safe. The situation is still being closely monitored.

FED keeps interest rates unchanged but has become less hawkish, what opportunities for May?
After the FED press conference, Bitcoin dumped 10%, as a result, interest rates will remain the same.
The FED continues to maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 5.25% - 5.5%. This decision is not surprising after a series of disappointing data of CPI, PPI and PCE in April 2024. The FED still appears confident about the health of the US economy (actually not too bad because GDP is still positive, just lower than expectations). The FED can accept low GDP for a few more quarters (as long as it is not negative) until wage growth slows down and CPI falls further. But the FED is no longer as hawkish as it was a month ago. It seems that employment data and other data have forced the FED to retreat.
The FED continues to maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 5.25% - 5.5%. This decision is not surprising after a series of disappointing data of CPI, PPI and PCE in April 2024. The FED still appears confident about the health of the US economy (actually not too bad because GDP is still positive, just lower than expectations).
