As part of its “Get Based” campaign, Subwway created an artwork that challenges viewers to rethink the boundaries between past, present, and future.
In creating this artwork, Subwway considered the protagonist to be in the role of a traveler and explorer, returning home after completing the cycle and gaining experience, an old theme but with a new twist in the form of Base.

OpenSea: Can you tell us a little bit about your artistic style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?
Subwway: Hey! As an artist, I research and combine various timelines, cultural symbols, technological eras, and my own experiences into one image, forcing the viewer to rethink the boundaries between past, present, and future.
OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT series or work?
Subwway: For me the process is more like a mathematical approach, the subject matter I’m interested in is the constant, the narrative tone, style, colour and format are the variables which I change regularly, with the subject matter as a starting point, my work is filled with small references and signs of what is going on in the world or what is happening locally, I try to use these references to give depth to the idea so that it is interesting to look at longer.
OpenSea: Can you talk about any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, especially in the digital realm of NFTs?
Subwway: The first thing I encountered was intermittent issues uploading large animations to IPFS, sometimes I had to burn the work multiple times and they would still hang on the config file, but this is all experience and everything is much more stable now.
Secondly, there are so few hours in the day, and I thought that when I became a full-time artist I would have less work, but I prefer it this way!
OpenSea: What inspired you to create on Base? How do you think Base’s features will benefit your artistic expression?
Subwway: The most obvious one is gas prices, I remember there was a time when it could cost $300 to mint and list an artwork, which was a big barrier to digitizing work, or if the network was overloaded you had to pay twice as much for minting, Base has removed that barrier! And of course a really cool community is forming around Base, so that’s another big driver for people to do more work in this network.
OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you create art?
Subwway: I’ve been drawing all my adult life, but after starting to create NFTs and getting to know the community, I began to truly understand how big the world is, but everything around me is closer than it seems. Over the past few years, my skills, storytelling, and interpersonal skills have greatly improved, and I feel very motivated to continue doing this.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through NFTs on OpenSea? Are there interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?
Subwway: Some things are really hidden inside, some things I won’t show on the surface but give time to see if they should come out, lately almost every piece is a statement to our community or just a sentiment.
OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you most, and how do you plan to incorporate these developments into your future projects?
Subwway: At the moment, if we talk about the concept of NFT as a certification of digital works, then everything suits me, if we talk about specific points, I would rather study how to load html into IPFS.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collectible?
Subwway: Patience, cyclicality and respect for yourself and others, that's all, any creativity is wonderful and it will definitely find its audience.
OpenSea: Where do you think digital art and NFTs will go in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?
Subwway: A few years ago, I couldn’t imagine how much progress this industry would make, so I’m excited for the future! In turn, I’m doing everything I can to make NFTs a cool tool!
