Demon Ego is a multimedia artist, demonic expressionist, graphic designer and research assistant. For Demon, it all started with illustrations 16 years ago. Surreal creatures have always been his tool to find his own reality and solve human fears, diseases, troubles and delusions. His inspiration comes from horror movies, Japanese and Greek mythology, comics, video games, psychological and philosophical knowledge and anime.

The creation process of The Devil in the Basement took about 2 weeks, and like all his collages, he used both physical and digital materials, he used sketchbooks, colored pencils, AI videos and images, videos shot with his phone, animations created with coding, and prints of his photographs.

OpenSea: Can you tell us a little bit about your artistic style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?

Demon Ego: I describe my art style as demonic expressionism and demonic experimentalism, the reason for this is that demonic imagery, the fundamental evil and the root of all evil, is increasingly taking over my art, where I constantly set out to discover new characters and stories, with the main purpose of trying to tell surreal stories in different ways.

OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT series or work?

Demon Ego: I always try not to make any plans, not to think about the end, therefore, the process of creating a work becomes for me an adventure with an unknown end, sometimes I will create a work for my physical or digital collages, but a few months later I will use that work in another work.

I give it time to find its place, in other words I am waiting for the pieces to find their place in the final piece that emerges, sometimes a finished piece can find its own direction based on just one word or the influence that the piece I created had on me.

OpenSea: Can you talk about any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, especially in the digital realm of NFTs?

Demon Ego: I can’t say that I have difficulty because if art already exists for you and there were no NFTs and the digital realm, you wouldn’t experience this feeling, and I think we need to get rid of the idea of living and creating works for NFTs or the digital realm and see these realms as new channels for art, otherwise, there can be a lot of pressure.

Being aware of everything, using every tool related to the things in question, stress may arise and I may just have trouble finding new ideas in my art, but that has nothing to do with NFTs, if I can’t create something new that takes my art one step further than it was yesterday, then nothing matters.

OpenSea: What inspired you to create on Base? How do you think Base’s features will benefit your artistic expression?

Demon Ego: Base has created huge opportunities and convenience for artists and I believe it will continue to do so, the opening of new paths, new collaborations and areas where we can easily access everything and deliver our work easily and quickly shows that a big dream of us artists is coming true. ‍

OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you create art?

Demon Ego: Now I encounter more works and ideas that inspire me, I meet, talk and share my ideas with artists and people who I would never have known existed without blockchain, which makes an important step forward in the evolution of mankind in spirit and art and art history.

We still have a lot to learn, and there are many more materials and methods that artists can use to try to understand and solve problems. Before blockchain, I only used a few digital materials, but now I use more than 10 materials and methods.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through NFTs on OpenSea? Are there interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?

Demon Ego: My goal with all my artwork is to show that we can draw surreal creatures (those that appear scary and malevolent) into the real world and become more powerful than them, and while doing so I use elements of the grotesque in my work and the stories of my work, that is, humor and parts of nature that are described as ugly, bad and disgusting.

In the work I created for the OpenSea project, I invited my demons from the basement where they live to the upstairs of the house, so I wanted to have them communicate with the inhabitants of the house, showing them their reality, so that, people would understand that they should not be afraid of them, that they are part of nature.

OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you most, and how do you plan to incorporate these developments into your future projects?

Demon Ego: I'm really excited about the future of NFTs, every day, every moment, there's new things happening, and as you try to learn these things, new things emerge, but fundamentally, I'm really excited about the idea of NFTs liberating art from rules, boundaries, traditional ideas, and canvases crammed into a room, but it hasn't even begun to liberate art.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collectible?

Demon Ego: First, as I answer every similar question, I want to start this question with the following: listen to your heart, ignore your mind, and keep this in mind when creating and displaying your work as an NFT or any other way.

Create your own method, your path, other people’s methods and paths are not for you, if art is not your passion in life, then neither creating art in real life nor your NFT adventure will last long, don’t rush, learn to be patient, take the time to find the right place and people for your art.

OpenSea: Where do you think digital art and NFTs will go in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?

Demon Ego: I think it's unpredictable, it will exist somewhere that has been imagined, believe me, I think it's hard to predict, let's continue to be surprised by what we see, as an artist who creates more works and makes sure his art is included in a wider field, I want to contribute to this, as long as art continues to exist and we continue to create, NFTs will continue to develop.
