The United States accounts for over 40% of the global Bitcoin hashrate: Report
The dominance of hashrate continues to be a controversial topic due to the anonymous nature and geographically dispersed nature of Bitcoin mining activities.
The United States accounts for over 40% of the global hashrate of the Bitcoin network - the total computational power securing the Bitcoin protocol - by the end of 2024, with two mining pools based in the United States, Foundry USA and MARA Pool, accounting for over 38.5% of the total blocks mined.
According to TheMinerMag, Foundry USA has ramped up its hash rate from 157 exahash per second (EH/s) at the beginning of 2024 to around 280 EH/s in December.
Foundry is now the largest mining pool by hashrate, controlling about 36.5% of the total hashrate in the Bitcoin network.
Data from Hashrate Index shows that MARA Pool currently holds about 32 EH/s, or 4.35% of the total hashing power. Despite the increase in computational power, mining pools based in China still control a majority of the global hashrate.
