$23 Billion Google plans to spend on buying a cybersecurity startup
Wiz specializes in tools for cloud security. The startup offers its solutions to corporate clients, creating a "layer" between cloud services. Companies can use Wiz's tools to eliminate critical security risks.
If the deal goes through, it will be Google's largest acquisition: twice as much as the giant previously paid for Motorola Mobility in 2012, writes The Wall Street Journal. According to the publication, the deal will help Google make its cloud technologies more secure and strengthen its position in the market. This is not the first time Google has shown interest in security companies: in 2022, the company bought Mandiant for $5.4 billion.
The fate of the deal is still unknown: it could very well be blocked by U.S. antitrust regulators. Or it might not be—just like when Microsoft bought Activision.
