According to PANews, Polygon Labs has announced a significant upgrade to the Polygon zkEVM testnet, introducing a new, more efficient, and stable sequencer named 'Eggfruit.' This technological advancement is expected to benefit developers and decentralized applications (dApps) on Polygon zkEVM, as well as chains built using Polygon CDK. The Eggfruit upgrade was launched on the testnet today, September 20, 2024, and will be rolled out to the mainnet test version after a 10-day lock period, on September 30, 2024.

The Eggfruit upgrade is scheduled to go live on the mainnet test version at 18:30 UTC+8 on September 30. During the upgrade, there will be approximately two hours of maintenance, during which the Polygon zkEVM test version will be temporarily unavailable. The lock period is designed to ensure the safety of all developers and users, adhering to the network's governance model. This period also provides developers with sufficient time to withdraw funds if necessary, as the upgrade involves the PolygonZkEVM.sol consensus contract.
