DFINITY Bridges Internet Computer Smart Contracts with EVM Networks. ♾️⛓️🔗 The DFINITY Foundation has announced a groundbreaking API that enables Internet Computer smart contracts to interact seamlessly with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks. This development significantly enhances cross-chain compatibility, allowing decentralized applications (dApps) to leverage the vast liquidity and user communities of EVM networks. With this new API, dApps can now benefit from cross-chain liquidity, community integration, and simplified API key management. This integration also extends to Layer 2 solutions like Optimism, Arbitrum, and Base, with the flexibility for users to add other EVM networks as needed. Currently, Internet Computer smart contracts are operational with Bitcoin and Ethereum in projects such as Bioniq, Bitfinity, and Omnity. The future looks promising with plans to integrate with the Solana blockchain as part of the Chain Fusion initiative, further enhancing interoperability. Lomesh Dutta, VP of the DFINITY Foundation, emphasized that this development marks a significant step in enabling the Internet Computer ecosystem to interact fluidly with any EVM network. This strategic integration aligns with DFINITY's broader vision to position the Internet Computer as a robust, third-generation blockchain network supporting the future of decentralized computing. Dominic Williams, President of DFINITY, has been vocal about the need for high-quality blockchain infrastructure, often contrasting the Internet Computer with what he describes as the “junk” comprising 95% of current blockchains.
