The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has highlighted cryptocurrencies as a top priority for its 2025 examinations. In an Oct. 21 announcement, the FCA's Division of Examinations emphasized its focus on crypto assets and related products and services, particularly Bitcoin and Ether spot exchange-traded products, which launched in 2024.

Given the volatility and growing activity in crypto markets, the FCA plans to closely examine the practices of registrants offering crypto services, with an emphasis on compliance, security, and the technological risks associated with blockchain and distributed ledger technology. The division will ensure that market participants understand the regulatory landscape, focusing on investor protection and market integrity.

Acting Director Keith Cassidy underscored that these priorities address areas of increased risk for investors. Despite potential changes in leadership, the FCA’s stance on digital assets remains firm, continuing its scrutiny into the crypto sector in 2025.
