Pudgy Penguins Available at GameStop and Target
Penguins are taking over, and Pudgy Penguins just launched the Pudgy Toys line at Target and GameStop nationwide, and the toys included in the physical collection are licensed through OverpassIP, an intellectual property marketplace that allows NFT holders to license their penguin artwork for use in special projects.
Through this strategic retail placement, Pudgy Penguins hopes to connect NFTs with mainstream consumers.
"With toys now in Target, our access efforts will expand to millions of people," the brand said in a tweet.
Ubisoft VP of Innovation talks about web3
Game publisher Ubisoft has been developing web3 projects for years, but the company recently rejoined the discussion.
In a conversation with VentureBeat, Nicolas Pouard, vice president of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab and head of blockchain initiatives at Ubisoft’s Entrepreneur Lab, laid out what the company learned from early fan criticism of blockchain and how it has since pivoted to a community-driven approach to web3 onboarding.
In 2023, Ubisoft made headlines for its strategic partnership with the Immutable blockchain, and in January 2024, became a node council partner of South Korean game publisher WeMade’s blockchain Wemix.
The Voice Enters the Metaverse
Decentralized gaming platform The Sandbox recently announced a partnership with the production company of hit talent competition The Voice, and its upcoming metaverse experience will soon turn fans into virtual coaches, allowing them to collect NFTs while playing games from this year’s 25th season of the show.
As a coach, the decisions made by players can impact the outcome of games, and NFT benefits could include access to live tapings of shows.
Sotheby’s Announces Auction of Alpha Centauri Kid’s Artwork
A limited edition of 300 “la nuit étoilée” from visionary crypto artist Alpha Centauri Kid is coming to auction at Sotheby’s Metaverse.
Phase 1, priced at 0.2 ETH each, will be available to permissionlisted members on June 6, 2024, and there will be a 24-hour buying window before phase 2 begins at a slightly higher price of 0.3 ETH.
As of May 13, approximately 30 licenses remain available, with priority given to existing Sotheby’s clients and holders of pioneering generative artist Vera Molnar’s Theme and Variations, which is being auctioned by Sotheby’s in July 2023.
ART TRUCK by ART GIRLS Gallery arrives in Lisbon for the final stop
Attendees of the upcoming NFC Summit in Lisbon can look forward to seeing art on wheels.
ART GIRLS GALLERY, a pop-up gallery founded in 2021 by art critic and curator Annelise Stern, will conclude its nomadic exhibition at the NFC Summit from May 28 to 30, 2024 in conjunction with ART TRUCK, a physical installation at the NFC Summit.
The exhibition, which will feature work by 12 leading web3 artists from around the world, is inspired by the story of pioneering art dealer Iris Clert, who in 1972 turned a Berliet Stradair truck into a mobile art space after her gallery suffered financial difficulties.
This may be the last time to meet ART GIRLS on the road, as Stern will soon open a permanent space in France.
Christie’s to auction exclusive DeeKay animation
Christie’s will auction a piece by retro-style animator DeeKay on May 17. The piece, Hands of Time, is a one-of-a-kind piece that depicts a tree with platforms on each branch, with a friendly avatar leaping and moving through different stages of life.
