Yield Protocol ceased operations in December 2023 due to low business demand and difficulty coping with global regulatory pressures. However, despite warnings, an unknown hacker stole approximately $181,000 worth of crypto assets from Yield's strategic contracts on the Arbitrum blockchain.
According to follow-up research by CertiK, the attacker exploited a mismatch between flash credit assets and extra pool tokens subsequently withdrawn. Official support for Yield Protocol ended on February 2, and despite an earlier revival date, it seems unlikely that the stolen funds will be recovered.
In the first quarter of 2024, Blockchain security firm Immunefi reported a 23% decrease in losses due to hacking and fraud compared to 2023. The report states that approximately $336.3 million was lost due to hacking and fraud in the first quarter of 2024.
