just in 👈👈👈👈 The US stock market is finally as fast as it was about a hundred years ago,” noted Bloomberg, following the recent implementation of the T+1 settlement cycle in the US.
This shift to a T+1 settlement cycle is aimed at reducing risk within the financial system. According to the SEC, a shorter settlement window decreases the likelihood of a buyer or seller defaulting before a transaction is completed, thereby reducing counterparty risk.
But doesn’t tokenization already achieve this and more? Indeed, as Larry Fink of BlackRock famously remarked, “the tokenization of every financial asset” will be step two “in the technological revolution in the financial markets.”
So, what can “step two” look like? Unlike T+1 settlement, tokenized assets can settle in near real-time, significantly reducing counterparty risk while enhancing capital efficiency.
