๐จ๐บ๐ธECONOMIC CALENDAR: HEAVY WEEK WITH A TOTAL FOCUS ON JOBS
๐๐ The U.S. agenda promises high volatility from Tuesday (05/05) to Friday (08/05), with key data that could significantly move the markets.
๐Tuesday โฐ11:00 AM: JOLTS โณForecast 6.8M | Previous 6.8M Measures the total number of job openings.
๐Wednesday and Friday โฐ09:15 AM: ADP โณ Forecast 90K | Previous 62K Measures the change in private employment, serving as a preview for the official payroll that comes out two days later.
โฐ09:30 AM: Unemployment Rate โณ Forecast 4.3% | Previous 4.3% Weaker data could reinforce expectations for interest rate cuts by the Fed later this year๐๐ช
We got out of the shitcoins at the right time ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน. That's why I always say that in trading, the most important part is the exit. I've never seen anyone making profits just because they made a good entry.
PNL is so fleeting that all it takes is for you to get distracted by the egg car passing down your street and it's already gone.
๐จ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ INSANE VOLATILITY: BTC SWEEPS LONGS AND SHORTS SEQUENTIALLY
๐๐ฅณ $BTC has led yet another aggressive move in the last 24 hours: first spiking to $77,800, liquidating $257M in shorts, and then dropping to $74,500, wiping out $347M in longs.
๐๐ฆ In total, there were $604 million in liquidations.
๐ Current liquidity: Between $73,000 and $75,000, thereโs about $394M in liquidity. Between $78,000 and $80,500, thereโs a wall of $1.02 billion.
Despite the recent downward pressure, the top remains much more loaded with liquidity๐
๐จ๐ฆAFTER THE FOMC: FED IS NOT EXPECTED TO MOVE INTEREST RATES
๐ฎ๐ฏMarket odds are showing a nearly set scenario: โ 98.6% chance of holding steady โ 1.4% chance of a cut โ 0% chance of a rate hike
๐ค๐ง This aligns perfectly with what Jerome Powell indicated:
"No one on the committee is calling for a rate increase at this time"
โ ๏ธ Even with inflation under pressure and an uncertain global outlook, the Fed prefers to keep rates where they are and wait for upcoming data before making any moves.
I just got asked for a short list of books to kick off in Trading ๐. Here are a few:
- Good books as your first read:
- Trading For a Living - Alexander Elder - (in pt, it's titled Como Ser um operador e investidor de sucesso)
- Come into my trading room - Alexander Elder - (In pt it's Como operar no mercado de aรงรตes).
- Technical Analysis For Dummies - Rockfeller
A solid book for emotional management (Elder's already covers a lot of that). But a more specific one is Mark Douglas's book, Trading in the Zone. In fact, I named my study channel as a nod to his book, just adding "Crypto" to the title.
- Best books specifically on technical analysis (these are the specifics, but I donโt recommend them as your first read):
- Technical Analysis Explained - Martin Pring - It's a great book, but dense and a bit boring. Use it for reference, but no need to read it cover to cover, and there's no reason for it.
Chart Patterns - Thomas N. Bulkowski. It's the best reference on chart patterns if you want to dive deeper. It doesn't cover support and pivots as well, for those there are other options.
Now for more specific books on derivatives:
Futures:
Futures in the Game: It's a really good book on leverage and futures trading, but one detail. It's about real futures, a lot about commodities, things that hurt when they hit your feet. I havenโt found any book on "fake futures" which are our perpetual swaps.
Options:
Investing in Options - Maurรญcio Hissa. It's one of the best in Portuguese and easier to grasp. It's more introductory.
Options as a Strategic Investment - Lawrence MacMillan. If you want a better one and like math more.
๐งโโ๏ธ๐ The Bank of Japan kept interest rates at 0.75%, aligning with market expectations.
โ ๏ธ This decision reinforces Japan's cautious stance, as they continue to monitor inflation and growth before making any moves in their monetary policy.
In the last 30 days, the price has jumped about 20%, but the implied volatility (dvol) has dropped nearly 25%. This indicates a controlled rise without much confidence from traders. We might have hit a local top near $80K, or we could push a bit higher. If BTC drops below $75K, the decline could start to accelerate.
A healthy Structural Bull phase after 5 months of strong declines needs DVOL to rise alongside the price. It was like this in 2019 and 2023.
But that could change. If the price starts climbing with DVOL increasing, it would invalidate this scenario and lead to an explosive rally.
Yesterday marked 15 years since Satoshi's last appearance ๐๐๐๐. He holds over 1 million BTC in his wallet, which would be worth more than 70 billion dollars.
One of the biggest fears regarding that wallet is that one day its signature could be compromised with the evolution of quantum computers.
The BTC network uses ECDSA to sign wallets, and one of the few algorithms capable of factoring large prime numbers is Shor's algorithm (which has been around since 1994).
In quantum computers, it would still require millions of qubits to break the key, and the computers built so far only have a few hundred of them. But considering it's an effort with a potential payoff of 100 billion dollars, itโs always a bit frightening... For example, the possibility of someone reaching an algorithm capable of solving this in O(log n) time.
The biggest math prize out there is 1 million dollars for solving 1 of the 7 biggest millennium problems - things like the Riemann Hypothesis and the Navier-Stokes equations, which have existed for decades without a solution - and are probably more complex than this. So, a prize of 100 billion dollars to try and find a more efficient algorithm to crack this wallet is a pretty sweet incentive.
The fear among holders is that with this, BTC would likely plummet by around 90%, as large wallets would be severely threatened.
๐จ๐บ๐ธ STRONG DROP: US MARKET LOSES $750B IN MINUTES ๐๐ฆThe US stock market wiped out around $750 billion in just 50 minutes, following news of escalating tensions in negotiations with Iran. โ ๏ธ Reports indicate that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, may have left the negotiation team after intervention from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
This movement sparked panic in the markets...๐
