FBI warns of North Korean hackers' plan to sell $40 million in Bitcoin

The Lazarus group is also recognized as APT38 and TraderTraitor, accused of orchestrating these cyber crimes.
FBI warns of pending $40 million Bitcoin sell-off
Over the past 24 hours, the FBI has been closely monitoring the movement of hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen cryptocurrency. Many suspect that the DPRK, through cooperatives affiliated with TraderTraitor, could move to liquidate its bitcoin holdings worth an estimated $40 million.
The FBI's extensive investigation led to the discovery of approximately 1,580 bitcoins stolen from various cryptocurrency heists and currently held at multiple Bitcoin addresses. These assets are controlled by players associated with TraderTraitor, raising concerns about potential consequences for the cryptocurrency market.
Individuals associated with TraderTraitor and associated with the DPRK have been responsible for multiple major international cryptocurrency thefts. On June 22, 2023, Alphapo was robbed of $60 million in virtual currency; CoinsPaid was robbed of 37 million USD on the same day; and Atomic Wallet were robbed of $100 million on June 2, 2023. The FBI also described previous attacks by the same organization on Harmony's Horizon Bridge and Sky Mavis's Ronin Bridge.
