Teng, a Singapore native, joined the world's largest crypto exchange as the CEO of Binance's Singapore business just over two years ago.
According to his LinkedIn page, he stayed in his original position as Singapore CEO for only five months before being promoted to regional president for Europe, Asia and the Middle East and North Africa in April 2023. In announcing his successor, Zhao described Mr Teng as a "highly qualified leader," adding that he would "guide the company through the next period of growth with over three decades of financial services and regulatory experience.""
Prior to joining Binance, Mr. Teng worked in the more traditional finance and regulatory sectors as director of corporate finance at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and regulatory director of the Singapore Exchange (SGX).
He later became the CEO of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), an international financial center in the United Arab Emirates, where he stayed for six years. ADGM regulates the trading of digital assets.
Teng said he was honored to step into the role, adding that he would focus on reassuring Binance's 170 million users about "the company's financial strength, safety and security.""
