Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog famous for the “Doge” meme, first gained attention in 2010 when owner Atsuko Sato posted a photo of him on his blog. The photo of Kabosu with a skeptical and curious expression quickly went viral, creating the “Doge” meme with outdated English phrases and Comic Sans.
By 2013, the meme became more popular when Dogecoin used Kabosu's image as its symbol. Initially a joke, Dogecoin has grown into a popular cryptocurrency, supporting many charitable initiatives. In December 2022, Sato announced that Kabosu was in danger of health problems, receiving great support from the cryptocurrency community.
Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, called on followers to support Kabosu, leading one user to offer to cover all costs so she could receive the best care. Kabosu's impact extends to political campaigns, like President Joe Biden's re-election campaign, which has hired a “meme master.”
