The DFINITY Foundation, a Switzerland-based nonprofit and major contributor to the Internet Computer blockchain, has announced the launch of the Olympus acceleration platform.
According to the press release, Olympus represents the first decentralized, on-chain Web3 accelerator, which DFINITY says is âthe first platform of its kind that teams around the world will use to organize and launch their own accelerator programs.â
The foundation also cited Olympusâ âOpen Stakeâ model, in which projects, mentors, and investors can âinteract freely, enabling permissionless ecosystem inclusivity and unlimited integration,â as a defining factor that sets it apart from similar accelerator programs.
In a statement, Dominic Williams, founder and chief scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, described the platform as a global platform for everyone:
âBy creating a global platform built on web3 for everyone, we are able to bring together top talent, projects, investors, and mentors to create a trusted and trustless marketplace that provides equal opportunity and access to all qualified projects. Traditional accelerator programs require permission and operate in silos, and many are unsustainable and dependent on grants. Olympus is a new model.â
The new platform will purportedly employ what DFINITY calls a âtrustless perpetual loopâ that provides on-chain verification of key project growth metrics through the Internet Computer Protocolâs infrastructure.
The Internet Computer is a decentralized computing platform that uses blockchain technology to host software directly on the internet. According to its mission, supporters of the Internet Computer aim to democratize internet infrastructure and foster a more "open and fair digital ecosystem."
Olympusâ development is supported by Hong Kong blockchain accelerator Web3Labs, and has received guidance and other support from investors and partners from venture capital funds including Fenbushi Capital, Fundamental Labs, Softbank Vision Fund, NewTribe Capital, Cypher Capital, Bitcoin Frontier Fund, Summer Ventures, L2IV, Dext Force Ventures, Leadblock Partners, viaBTC Capital, Cipholio Ventures, Chiron Group, 3X Capital, Plutus.VC, and others.
