Having conducted over 120 in-person and virtual training sessions in 2023 as part of our Global Law Enforcement Training Program, Binance continues to work closely with national and international law enforcement agencies to advance collaborative security in the digital-asset space.
Binance’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and crime fighters’ proficiency in addressing cybercrime threats has been recognized by law enforcement authorities around the world. In 2023 alone, our specialized teams have delivered more than 120 seminars, workshops, and training sessions to strengthen investigators’ understanding of the crypto space and practical skills indispensable for addressing crypto-related threats – and we continue ramping up this work in 2024. On January 24, Binance delivered a virtual law enforcement training session to officers from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).
The Evolution of Cyber Policing
Hosted by Binance, this was a half-day virtual law enforcement sharing session attended by over 30 officers from INTERPOL. Led by experts of Binance’s Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) unit, the sharing covered integral topics on law enforcement, centered around cryptocurrency investigations and cyber policing in the web3 space.
The session provided a detailed exploration of the mechanisms and techniques that Binance employs to support international authorities and law enforcement agencies in the fight against cyber threats. Officers were provided insights into how they could collaborate with Binance in criminal investigations, including assistance in data request procedures, freezing or seizing illicit funds from the platform, and the proactive practical assistance provided by the investigators from Binance.
Buttressing Cybersecurity through Partnerships
Horest Au Yeung, a representative from INTERPOL, shared his insights following the session: “As the adoption of digital assets continues to rise, we inevitably start witnessing more crimes in the digital space. It is therefore crucial to hold more cross-collaborations between industry experts such as Binance and the law enforcement community to facilitate information sharing and refine mitigation strategies to tackle this emergent type of cyber transgressions effectively. We recognize the value of these sessions in helping us to foster a deeper understanding of the Web3 space, so that we are better prepared to address related threats in the future.”
Jarek Jakubcek, Head of Law Enforcement Training at Binance, commented: “Binance believes in the importance of taking on a holistic and collaborative approach to maintaining cybersecurity. Binance is honored to be taking on a leading role in shaping a safer digital landscape through the sharing of expertise required to address cyber threats and cryptocurrency-related crimes. We remain dedicated to safeguarding our Web3 ecosystem, through close coordination with other industry players and law enforcement agencies.”
Binance representatives Jarek Jakubcek, Carlos Mak, Robert Thomson, and Ferdinando Luca De Pascalis, share expertise with INTERPOL agents in an online session.
In 2023, Binance’s Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) unit worked to deliver 120 in-person and virtual training sessions that were met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the law enforcement community. We continue to work in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies, participating in investigations as well as seminars such as the Commercial Crime Advanced Course by the Hong Kong Police Force. This year, Binance remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity across more regions through increased cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
