Mining company Hut 8 will partner with the sons of US President Donald Trump, Eric and Donald Jr., to launch a Bitcoin mining company called American Bitcoin.
Crypto company Hut 8, based in Miami, Florida, has merged most of its mining operations for 80% of the shares of American Data Centers — a company created by a group of investors, including Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., which has been relaunched under the name American Bitcoin.
This move illustrates the growing involvement of the Trump family in the cryptocurrency landscape as the industry moves towards mainstream recognition. The US President has promised to become the 'crypto president' who promotes its widespread use in America.
Shares of Hut 8, listed on the US stock exchange, jumped 6.4% in pre-market trading. Year-to-date, they have fallen 42.8%.
"From the very beginning, we have supported our faith in Bitcoin - both personally and through our companies. But simply buying bitcoins is only half the story. Mining it in favorable economic conditions opens up even greater opportunities," said Donald Trump Jr.
American Bitcoin will primarily focus on Bitcoin mining while simultaneously creating a strategic reserve of cryptocurrencies. The company will be led by CEO Matt Prusak, while Eric Trump will serve as Chief Strategic Officer.
In the long term, American Bitcoin plans to go public to expand access to capital. Hut 8 will act as the exclusive infrastructure and operational partner for American Bitcoin.
