In April 2020, he used a "zero-day vulnerability" to hack into 81,000 firewall devices, including 23,000 systems protecting critical infrastructure in the United States.

The FBI was forced to offer a $10 million reward, a sky-high figure second only to Bin Laden:🧵Guan Tianfeng is an ordinary cybersecurity researcher and a core member of Sichuan Wusheng Information Technology Co., Ltd.

He focuses on discovering undisclosed vulnerabilities and using them for malicious attacks.

His code name is "GbigMao". The key to this cyberattack lies in a vulnerability in the firewall product of British company Sophos Ltd.

Guan Tianfeng discovered the vulnerability and quickly weaponized it to implant malware.

The malware is designed to steal data, including usernames, passwords, and in some cases deploy ransomware. In April 2020, Guan Tianfeng and his team launched a massive attack.

Globally, 81,000 firewall devices were attacked, of which 23,000 were located in the United States.

Even more shocking, 36 of these devices were used to protect critical infrastructure such as energy, power grids, and communications in the United States. The consequences of this attack could have been catastrophic.

For example, a US company was attacked while drilling for oil, which almost caused the oil platform to go out of control.

If the vulnerability was not blocked in time, this attack could have caused loss of life and serious infrastructure damage. Despite this, Guan Tianfeng did not stop.

He continued to exploit other undisclosed vulnerabilities to carry out new attacks while covering his tracks with obfuscation technology.

These attacks earned him the title of "the world's most wanted hacker."
