Title: Dogecoin Network Under Attack, Unknown Hacker Takes Out 69% of Active Nodes

On December 12, the Dogecoin network was attacked by a hacker who took control of over two-thirds of its active nodes offline. Unauthorized data may have been accessed during the attack. At the time of the attack, there were 647 active nodes in the Dogecoin network, but only 315 were operational when the incident was reported.

The vulnerability, named “DogeReaper”, was first reported on December 4. The flaw allows an attacker to remotely shut down network nodes by specifying their addresses. Despite the attack, Dogecoin’s native token, DOGE, did not suffer a significant drop but was pushed back to the $0.40 level. Dogecoin’s network structure is similar to that of Bitcoin, with a block time of one minute, making it roughly 10 times more efficient.

The network does not have a maximum supply, and the block reward is a fixed 10,000 DOGE per created block. Although the profitability of mining Dogecoin decreases over time, the popularity of the native token still makes it an attractive network for miners. DOGE entered public consciousness in 2021 when it was embraced by Elon Musk and media personalities like him.

Currently, DOGE is struggling to maintain the $0.40 level and could potentially go up to $0.65 in the coming weeks according to technical analysts.
