Neither Elon Musk, nor Tim Cook, nor the head of Nvidia. Lisa Su, leading AMD, has been named CEO of the Year by Time
She has led the company to success
Lisa Su, head of AMD, has been named CEO of the Year by Time magazine.
Su faced strong competition. Nvidia has soared to incredible heights in 2024, becoming the most valuable company in the world. Let’s remember that Nvidia's head, Jensen Huang, and Lisa Su are relatives, though not the closest.
As the magazine writes, when Lisa Su became CEO ten years ago, AMD's shares were trading at around $3, and the company's market share in data center chips had declined so much that executives rounded it down to zero, and everyone was asking how long the company would survive.
An engineer by education, Su led the redesign of AMD's products from the ground up, restored relationships with customers, and took the AI boom to new heights. In 2022, the company's total value surpassed its historical competitor Intel for the first time. Now AMD's shares are trading at around $140, nearly 50 times more than when Su took over. This fall, Harvard Business School began teaching management of AMD under Su as an example.
