The Dogecoin Foundation announced yesterday that it has been working on open-source projects for the Dogecoin ecosystem and currently employs many full-time developers responsible for a range of projects that benefit the Dogecoin community.
Since 2021, the foundation's goal has been to facilitate the adoption of Dogecoin by businesses around the world by building infrastructure and tools, and to research how to make Dogecoin more scalable and efficient, thus becoming a means of transaction for global users, which will increase the adoption rate of Dogecoin as a useful currency for everyday payments. This work has been primarily funded by the generous donations of Vitalik Buterin, along with another anonymous Dogecoin superfan's generous contribution.
As we enter 2025, the foundation is seeking to continue its ongoing open-source work, particularly through the new Dogebox decentralized infrastructure system, which serves as a tool to enable the first million grassroots retailers to accept Dogecoin as a direct payment layer.
Dogebox will allow everyday businesses to self-host their own online stores, integrate with existing systems, and enable regular node operators to participate in the decentralized payment system, providing rewards when people use Dogecoin to purchase goods and services.
