Ethereum, proposed by Vitalik Buterin in late 2013 and development started in early 2014, aimed to expand the potential applications of blockchain technology beyond Bitcoin's scope. The project's white paper, titled "A Next-Generation Smart Contract and Decentralized Application Platform," outlined Ethereum's vision.
The Ethereum blockchain went live on July 30, 2015, with the release of its first version, known as Frontier. This marked the beginning of a new era, introducing the concept of smart contracts. Smart contracts are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. Ethereum's programming language, Solidity, was developed for creating these smart contracts
