Elon Musk will have to pay an additional 10.3 million reais ($1.9 million) to lift a ban on his social media platform X in Brazil, a document from Brazil's Supreme Court showed.

The penalty was ordered by Supreme Court Justice Alexander de Moraes as punishment for making the X platform available despite the August 30 ban, including through Musk’s satellite internet provider, Starlink.

“In the face of X Brasil’s failure to comply with the court order for two days, the company must pay a fine of 10 million reais so that it can immediately resume its activities in the national territory,” Moraes said in the document, according to Bloomberg.

The court also ordered the firm's Brazilian representative, Rachel de Oliveira Vila Nova Conceicao, to pay a fine of 300,000 reais.

Moraes added that X's immediate return depends "entirely on full compliance with Brazilian legislation and absolute adherence to court orders out of respect for national sovereignty."

Earlier in September, Brazil withdrew 18.35 million reais from the local bank accounts of X and Starlink to pay fines imposed by the Supreme Court.

Moraes has blocked Starlink's accounts in an attempt to force the tech company to settle penalties for ignoring an earlier order.
