The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has made a surprise announcement that its term crypto asset security never meant to refer to the tokens themselves
Instead, it meant the set of contracts, expectations, and agreements surrounding the sale of those assets.
The SEC calls its use of the term securities a shorthand that did not mean that the cryptocurrencies themselves were securities.
