ApeCoin's Ethereum L2 ApeChain is coming soon, and will launch a new plan called BluePrint with BAYC as the theme. After a series of restructuring and reconstruction of Yuga Labs, whether ApeChain can lead BAYC to start again, the financial report released by ApeCoin yesterday is worth seeing. $APE

Let me first state the conclusion: ApeCoin currently does not generate any cash flow, the treasury inflow is 0, and it is continuously in a net outflow state. After deducting liabilities, the current net assets can be maintained for about 3 years at this expenditure level.

As of March 31, 2024 (APE is calculated at the current price of $0.64),

Assets: The ApeCoin Foundation holds a total of 326,119,529 APE (valued at approximately USD 208.7 million), 85,767 USDC, 474,661 USD (fiat currency), and 750,000 APE (valued at approximately USD 480,000) in loans receivable, with a total USD value of approximately USD 209.8 million, with stablecoins and fiat currencies accounting for 0.27%.

Among them, 317,171,195 APE (about 97.3%) of the treasury’s 326,119,529 APE are stored in the Coinbase Prime custody account, and 8,948,334 APE are stored in the multi-signature contract Safe.

Assets month-on-month: APE, the largest head of ApeCoin's treasury, decreased by 21,885,649 APE (about 6.3%), worth about $14 million, compared to December 31, 2023. In other words, in the first quarter, ApeCoin's total expenditure was about $14 million.

Expenses are mainly divided into two categories, one is freight costs and the other is Grants.

Operating expenses totaled 1,098,538 APE (approximately US$703,000), broken down as follows:

(1) Administrative expenses: 270,498 APE (approximately US$173,000)

(2) Custody fees: 233,126 APE (approximately $149,000) paid to Coinbase

(3) Legal expenses: 310,405 APE (approximately US$199,000)

(4) Special Committee Fees: 90,408 APE (approximately US$58,000)

(5) Community event support: such as ETH Latam, ULTRA South Africa and Neon Carnival, 148,627 APE (about US$95,000)

(6) Payment fees adjusted in USD/USDC due to APE exchange rate fluctuations: 45,474 APE

The largest expenditure was from Grants, which amounted to 20,647,723 APEs, valued at approximately $13.215 million.

There are three grants with expenditures of over one million APE:

(1) Staking Funds (AIP-22): Current expenditure: 8,400,000 APE (approximately US$5.376 million)

That is, ApeCoin (APE), BAYC, MAYC and BACK staking pools earn APE tokens

Since approval on May 4, 2022, the ApeCoin Foundation has spent 115,967,686 APE on the Staking Pool, with 50,632,314 APE to be allocated

(2) Digital Art Movement Collection (AIP-304): Current expenditure: APE 7,000,000 (approximately USD 4.48 million)

AIP-304 was initiated by NFT giant Huang Licheng (Machibigbrother), which is to use funds to purchase Yuga assets (BAYC, MAYC, BACK and Punks, etc.) for exhibitions and donations to art institutions

These 7 million APEs are the first to be used for this proposal, and there are 4 million APEs to be allocated. The effect of this proposal is very limited. As for the BAYC floor price, the currency standard has also fallen by more than 50% this year; it is not transparent as to which NFT was purchased, how to buy it, what to buy, and where to exhibit it.

(3) Thank APE - Phase II (AIP-379): Current expenditure: 4,200,000 APE (approximately US$2.688 million)

A one-time one-year grant applied for by an organization called "Thank APE". In simple terms, what Thank APE does is to recruit people for the development of the ApeCoin ecosystem, and the funds applied for are returned to the community through various forms of rewards.

80% of the 4.2 million APE (3.36 million APE) are allocated to Technology Builders, Culture Builders, Small Businesses and Emerging Opportunities, and the remaining 20% are allocated to ThriveCoin (which provides the protocol and application layer for Thank APE), Thank APE Board and other supporting services

There are nearly 30 Grants of various sizes, but it seems difficult to say how much impact they have on the ApeCoin and Yuga NFT ecosystem.

Liabilities

ApeCoin's liabilities are relatively simple, mainly consisting of unallocated and reserved appropriations after the AIP proposal was passed.

The total is 59,950,054 APE, worth about US$38.368 million, of which 59,506,469 APE are reserved for Grants, mainly 50,632,314 APE to be used in the Staking Pool.

After deducting liabilities, ApeCoin's net assets are 267,198,093 APE, worth approximately $171 million. At this net asset level, zero cash flow, and maintaining the current expenditure level, it can support approximately 12.29 quarters, or approximately 3 years and 1 month.

It is expected that after ApeChain comes out, ApeCoin will generate network fee income, but at the moment when L2 competition is too fierce, there are doubts about how much fee income can be generated, and supporting the development of the ecosystem may further increase quarterly expenditures.

(Note: Due to time differences, data aggregation differences, unrecorded transactions or fees, and adjustments or exchange rate fluctuations of fiat currencies or stablecoins such as USD or USDC to APE, there may be slight deviations in balances/expenditures)
