Telegram Founder Durov Could Make News as Early as Wednesday

BlockBeats reported that French prosecutors said on August 27 that Telegram founder and CEO Durov could be released as early as Wednesday local time. However, Polymarket is unsure whether he could be released in August, with some users betting he could be released before the end of September.

Prosecutors said Durov has not yet been formally charged. Instead, his detention is part of an investigation into crimes allegedly planned or distributed on Telegram, including money laundering, drug trafficking, child pornography, and failure to cooperate with law enforcement.

The press release said that if investigators find enough evidence during questioning, Durov’s detention could be extended, or he could be formally charged and transferred to pretrial detention. Such a possibility could add to market doubts about whether he could be released before his initial sentence expires.
