Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs plans to strengthen citizens' digital autonomy and assist in the operation of democratic societies as key goals. Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs stated that in accordance with the spirit of digital democracy, Taiwan will establish and promote the development route of Web3. This includes analyzing the development direction of Taiwan's Web3 digital public goods, implementing Digital Civic Infrastructure, and expanding cooperation with international forward-looking organizations by participating in international events. By developing and realizing various possibilities for the application of diverse technologies in democratic societies, we will ensure that Taiwan occupies a place in the global map of digital democracy.
Taiwan Digital Department plans to apply decentralized identity architecture
The Ministry of Digital Affairs stated that in order to meet the needs of the next generation of digital services, Taiwan will implement a digital public construction project using Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and Verifiable Credentials, also known as Digital Wallet. .
These technologies will strengthen digital autonomy, align with international standards such as the Global Information Network Association, and promote the interoperability of global credential technologies. In addition, Taiwan will establish an independent verifiable credential ecosystem for individuals, connect open source and interoperable technologies, and create an innovation demonstration of digital democracy that is in line with international standards.
Anticipated cooperation with global multi-party relationship organizations
The Ministry of Digital Affairs stated that on a global scale, Taiwan will take stock of and participate in the activities of multi-stakeholder organizations, substantively participate in the promotion of international standards, and enhance the effectiveness of digital citizen self-governance and digital diplomacy. At the same time, Taiwan will strengthen the digital process of specification interoperability. Specific operations include participating in the activities of the Worldwide Information Network Consortium (W3C), the FIDO Alliance, and the Global Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) to ensure influence and participation in the field of international digital democracy.
