According to fo, most of the suffering of human beings comes from desire.
But desire is endless
After eating, I want to wear warm clothes
Dress warmly and want to drive
I want to go to heaven now that I have a car
I want to go to Mars.

But this desire is the driving force behind human progress.
Without this desire, we would probably be monkeys now.
From a personal perspective,
Those who are content with the status quo are mediocre
Only those who are unwilling to give up can create greater achievements.

Yes, I said "possibly"
This is a necessary but not sufficient condition.

If you are just unwilling, but your ability cannot keep up
Or maybe you are too unwilling to accept it.
Not only are you miserable and anxious, but you also cannot achieve your goals.

Have you ever thought about a question
Why have pain and anxiety remained in our genes after 10,000 years of evolution?
Because if there is no pain
Humans don't think about moving forward.
They will be eliminated in the face of drastic environmental changes.
If you are not anxious
Not stocking up on more food
Humans have starved to death.

But that's all appropriate anxiety.
Don’t look at problems in isolation
Restore the problem to the scene where it occurred
This is also a system thinking ability.

The difference between our modern anxiety and that of ancient times is that
We are anxious about things that are not objective.
For example, when we were still monkeys
You may be eaten by a lion at any time.
It really is a meal package, but you'll be hungry for one meal.
And when it comes to choosing a spouse,
A more accurate expression should not be choosing a mate, but competing for a mate.
These things really can cause anxiety and should cause anxiety.

Imagine an anxious monkey and a lazy monkey.
Who will be eliminated in the end and who will win the competition?

But our current environment,
There are no lions to be seen and the security is very good.
There is no need to worry about food, but the worry is eating too much and getting various diseases.
Regardless of whether or not you are willing to get married now, the gender ratio is still roughly 1:1.

So what are we anxious about? What are we suffering from?
Because we see things that we shouldn't see or should not see.
Like Ferrari
Like a private jet
For example, Liu Yifei
These are not available in your village.
Maybe your genes can only cope with the cow at the entrance of your village as a means of transportation
You can only consider Xiaofang from your village as a spouse.

Simply put, what we want is beyond our ability.
This is the root of modern suffering and anxiety

The Buddha tells us to escape suffering and attain happiness
But practice is a process
Becoming a monk all of a sudden is too far from human nature.
But we can practice in this world.

Let me tell you a story about a little monk boiling water
There was a little monk who had a big pot of water boiling, but he didn't have enough firewood.
I can't boil it.
He kept looking for firewood, but it would never get burning.
Later his master asked him: The water won’t boil, why do you keep adding firewood?
The little monk said: I want boiled water, everyone else has boiled water.
Master: Why should you have it if others have it?
Little monk: Everyone else has it.
Master: Go and see what others are doing when they boil water.
The young monk went to see why people boiled water and found out that it was to scald the pig skin, remove the hair and eat the pork.
The little monk was very upset, but he still wanted boiled water, at least to make tea.
The master asked again: Even if you want to boil water, why do you keep adding firewood if it never boils? It's useless work. Can't you just stop boiling it? Can't you just give up?
The little monk said: It won’t boil without adding firewood. If you give up, the firewood before will be wasted.
Master: Isn't it true that you can't add enough firewood? If you don't give up, not only will the previous firewood be wasted, but the firewood you continue to add will also be wasted.
The little monk said nothing, just lowered his head.
The master picked up the kettle, poured half a kettle of water onto the soil next to him, and then put it on the fire.
Giving up does not mean giving up completely, giving up can also mean giving up part of something.
If you don't have enough firewood, don't boil so much water.
How can you produce results when your causes are not sufficient?
Bodhisattvas fear the cause but not the result.

This is the source of modern people’s pain and anxiety.
It is also the antidote to the pain and anxiety of modern people.
It’s not that I don’t struggle or work hard.
It has to match.
When we want something,
Let’s shift our focus to the process first.
Lower your requirements a little bit.
Finally: just compare yourself with yourself, and get better and better.
