Bitcoin Whale Sends Julian Assange 8 Bitcoins to Pay for Private Jet
Coin World reports:
WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has returned to Australia debt-free after eight bitcoins worth about $500,000 were sent to a fundraiser to pay for his private jet.
An anonymous donor sent 8.0717 bitcoins, worth more than $494,000, to the address listed on the Free Julian Assange website, according to Alistair Milne, chief information officer of Altana Digital Currency Fund.
In addition to this, Julian's wife Stella donated £345,992 ($437,925) to the crowdfunding fund. She and Julian needed $520,000 to pay for a charter flight provided by the Australian government to take him to Saipan and then to Australia.
Assange pleaded guilty to one count of espionage in a Saipan court on Tuesday as part of a plea agreement. He has since returned to Australia as a free man.
