Rumors of possible digital asset integration in the widely anticipated Grand Theft Auto GTA 6 are circulating. The rumors have been around since 2021 but were rekindled by a pseudonymous X user. The X user claims that GTA 6 will integrate Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) for in-game crypto payments and utilities.

The pseudonymous X user published the post on Wednesday. The post garnered a lot of attention, with more than 700,000 impressions at the time of this publication. The X user emphasized that the game will “enable cryptocurrency payments” for users. According to the post, the three crypto assets that have so far been “confirmed” are Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether.

Inquisitively, gamers and crypto fanatics asked the user for his source to verify the claims. Still, he jokingly replied that his “uncle works there,” likely referring to a relative working at Rockstar Games. Other X users replied that his news was old, referring to the previous rumors that surfaced in 2021 and 2022. However, he replied by stating that their claims were from an “old statement.”.

Rockstar Games remains silent on the rumors

I heard recently that in GTA 6, some missions will reward you in bitcoin instead of cash for completing some missions.

The stock market feature will return, with the addition of a broker for different cryptocurrencies. If GTA 6 incorporates this right, it's huge for crypto.

The claims are still classified as rumors since Rockstar Games, the game’s developer, has not yet confirmed its plans to integrate crypto payments in GTA 6. Official announcements and GTA 6 trailers from Rockstar Games have also not confirmed and have never affirmed that the widely anticipated game would include blockchain technology, let alone integrated cryptocurrency payment systems.

In 2021, another X user posted that some missions in GTA 6 will reward players in Bitcoin instead of cash after successful completion. The user also stated that the game will feature a broker and several digital assets.

Rockstar has garnered monumental success from its games. The company is behind the development of Red Dead Redemption and the Grand Theft Auto series. GTA V is Rockstar’s best-selling game, having sold 155 million copies. If the rumor is true, Rockstar could also be planning to integrate digital assets into other games, including Red Dead Redemption. Other game-developing companies may also join the bandwagon to stay competitive and relevant.

If GTA 6 had incorporated digital assets into its gameplay, the crypto industry would have witnessed a remarkable transformation in the entertainment industry since Bitcoin launched in 2009.

Crypto could benefit from mainstream games like GTA 6

For the traditional gaming community, the news could mean a new, dynamic gaming experience with endless possibilities. Gamers will witness new gaming strategies, milestones, and unique economic structures powered by real virtual assets such as cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFT). Players would trade digital assets for in-game collectibles or earn digital assets to complete missions.

The game developer announced in the trailer that GTA 6 will debut in 2025. Until then, crypto and gaming fans will have to wait patiently for official confirmation from the game developers.
