Golden Finance reports that Bitfinex hacker Ilya Lichtenstein has posted a five-minute video on X, marking his first public statement since his arrest in 2022. In the video, Ilya Lichtenstein reiterates that he is the hacker and that he acted alone, denying speculation from a Netflix documentary regarding possible involvement of his wife and father (or possibly some espionage agency, possibly Russian) in the theft, and expressing plans to work in cybersecurity after his release. Ilya Lichtenstein was imprisoned on suspicion of stealing 120,000 bitcoins from Bitfinex in 2016, and the video was recorded during a remote visit with his wife from prison.
