The Internet Computer is fully committed to helping AI reach its full potential. The new collaboration between the DFINITY Foundation and the ETH Zurich AI Center will benefit both ecosystems.
The DFINITY Foundation is pleased to announce that it has joined the ETH Zurich AI Center as its official industry partner. ETH Zurich is one of Switzerland's top universities.
After joining the alliance, our R&D and business teams will be able to directly access the latest research findings, faculty within universities, technical talent, networks, and a startup ecosystem rich in experience in AI and deep technology.
The AI Center is leading the development of responsible and inclusive AI systems and expanding access to world-class supercomputing resources to develop AI models that benefit global society. ETH Zurich is a founding member of ICAIN (International Computing and Artificial Intelligence Network), which aims to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through AI.
"We are delighted to welcome another outstanding member to our ecosystem," said Daniel Naeff, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the ETH AI Center. "We can now collaborate on many different activities and, most importantly, we fully understand how to maximize our ecosystem and jointly promote its development in the fields of AI and Web3."
Building the future of artificial intelligence: Opportunities and limitations.
The prospects for AI are exciting, from developing treatments and implementing healthcare surgeries to leveraging renewable energy systems to mitigate climate change: astounding improvements in retail, transportation, scientific research, financial services, and agriculture are within reach, and this seems just the tip of the iceberg.
We know that AI has the potential to dramatically change the way technology serves humanity. The opportunities are limitless. Just imagine what AI tools mean for entrepreneurs, gamers, students, governments, NGOs, and communities that lack the technical skills or funds to pay expensive developers, consultants, or SaaS services.
While it's easy to get carried away, the real challenge is turning all the potential of AI into something brilliant. Traditional IT has limitations in all the opportunities presented by AI.
Traditional IT was not designed for constant upgrades, which deprives the freedom of real-time development. Moreover, large tech companies tend to lock AI development software onto special platforms or treat data as collateral. Any valuable applications and services from large tech companies will never truly own sovereignty; they are not that tightly coupled.
The Internet Computer as a unique home for artificial intelligence.
The Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) is a powerful blockchain network that provides a decentralized alternative to traditional cloud and IT infrastructure. It is undoubtedly the world's only decentralized public network capable of hosting and running AI in a smart contract model.
Although the Internet Computer is blockchain-driven, it has properties that are entirely different from traditional blockchains. Perhaps most importantly, it can serve as a complete technology stack: users can store vast amounts of data on these networks and then perform extensive data processing, building almost anything you can imagine using native Web3 technologies (while still allowing developers to use familiar Web2 technologies, such as HTTPS calls).
Moreover, like the underlying protocol, applications running on the Internet Computer are secure and tamper-proof.
The Internet Computer is fast and powerful, capable of processing over 2 million Ethereum-equivalent transactions per second. Specifically, in just one hour, the Internet Computer processes more smart contract computations than hundreds of other blockchains do in a year.
Following the recent milestones of Tokamak, Beryllium, and Stellarator updates, the Internet Computer is now better performing, lower latency, with more storage, higher throughput, and easier to use. Developers and AI applications can benefit from these improvements—and there will be more enhancements in the future.
Today, network-resident software on the Internet Computer can already be used to run AI models and RAG infrastructure, and there will be more exciting AI advancements in the future.
Looking to the future.
The Internet Computer and its community are developing the infrastructure for artificial intelligence to achieve everything we want, and industry collaboration will play a significant role in achieving this goal. Collaborating with participants like the ETH AI Center will provide important opportunities for both partners to learn, educate, and support their respective ecosystems.
Welcome to embark on this transformative journey with us. Let's explore together where the results created by AI in collaboration with humanity will take us.
