According to Odaily, the European Union is currently examining the accuracy of user data provided by the social media platform Telegram to determine whether stricter regulations should be applied to its operations within the EU. In February, Telegram reported to the EU that it has 41 million monthly active users in the region, which is slightly below the threshold of 45 million monthly users set by the EU's Digital Services Act for classification as a 'Very Large Online Platform' (VLOP). The European Commission has stated that if it finds the data to be inaccurate and Telegram indeed meets the user threshold, it has the authority to unilaterally designate Telegram as a VLOP.
