We are testing several references of CMOS cameras and lenses in the lab. Keycard Pro uses a CMOS camera to scan QR codes… These QR codes (following ERC-4527) are not your mama’s QR code but impressive animated ones as shown in the video in the replies (there might be an Easter egg in there, too. Be the first to find it, and you’ll be able to claim a @Keycard_ Pro when the product launches). We have to make sure the camera we use can handle this while maintaining a low cost, mostly by making sure we use the right lens with the right aperture, field of view, and focus distance.

🧑💼 Communities need management, and Community owners need administrative support. So, we’ve devised a fully decentralised solution to give it to them! 🤝
⚖️ We needed to balance usability, functionality, and, as always, our principles. We achieved this through tokenised Community roles and token-gated Community management. 🧠
When minting their Owner token, Community Owners also mint an unlimited supply of TokenMaster tokens, which they can airdrop to trusted Community members. TokenMaster token hodlers can then perform administrative duties within the Community – the most powerful of which is assigning the Admin role to newly minted Community tokens and existing tokens, NFTs, or even @ensdomains names!!
Hodlers of the tokens required to be an Admin can do things like admit new members to the Community, open and close channels, delete spam messages, etc.
🔐 Owners, TokenMasters, and admins can also be token-gate access to the Community itself or individual channels within it using a single token or combination of tokens. This opens up a whole host of management and monetisation opportunities and does so in an entirely decentralised manner. 🌐
✨ It also brings new utility to existing tokens, NFTs, and ENS names – imagine the alpha channel in your NFT community requires users to hodl 5 or more of your project’s digital collectibles!! 🤯

We heard you — taking small actions on the Status app can cost too much in gas.
This is why there’s now a proposal to launch Status Chain, a Layer 2 rollup built on Ethereum!

This New Initiative Proposal (NIP) aims at providing a low gas fee environment so that users are not priced out due to congestion during surges in activity.
TL;DR: The proposed Status Chain would be a Layer 2 rollup that is EVM equivalent and based on Ethereum, with a target of 1 cent (or less!) per transaction. It is proposed that the Status Chain could leverage an existing open-source rollup framework that aligns with Status' core ethos and that has a strong bias towards client diversity — as we'd love to integrate our upcoming @ethnimbus execution client with this proposed new L2.
This development would be a big step forward for Status as it would allow us to have a sovereign Ethereum-aligned rollup where app developers could build directly for Status Communities in an environment they are comfortable.
The discussion has already started, and you are encouraged to join it and make your voice heard!
After rounds of feedback, we will formalise proposals before letting SNT hodlers indicate on Snapshot which of the NIP proposals they would like to see prioritised next.

Keycard Pro is not only a software project but also a complex mechatronic development!
Every design decision balances electrical, mechanical, and optical (we have a camera in there! ) constraints while making sure we keep costs down, manufacturing is feasible, and production complies with regulations.
That’s a lot of considerations… Every decision is a complex trade-off!! ⚖️
We’re currently deep into building a full prototype of the device and can’t wait to share more. Here’s a preview of how @Keycard_ Pro will be constructed.

Nowhere on the official Status website (https://status.app) do we request you to connect your wallet, and no one from Status will ever DM you on X (Twitter), Discord, or any other channel to do so. We will also only communicate all news, including that relating to our beta launch, via the Status X account or our official website.
Web3 can be a dangerous place. Be over-cautious and stay safe out there 🙏

That’s why the upcoming Status 2.0 Desktop and Mobile platforms include a Community Directory that’s fully decentralised, completely independent of Status, and highlights popular Communities to give new users arriving on Status an easy way of discovering Status Communities!
Moderation is important for such a directory. However, in line with our principles, Status (or any other single entity) should not, cannot, and will not have control over which Communities are worthy of inclusion.
Therefore, it’s up to Status Community members to propose Communities to include in the Community Directory, and it’s up to SNT holders to vote on which Status Communities should be included or excluded (via the Community Directory Curation DApp).
The Community Directory Curation DApp utilises @Waku_org to make most of the voting process gasless — on-chain transactions are only required to start and finalise a vote, and all voting in between is gas free!
The Community Directory Curation DApp also lets SNT holders vote on which Status Communities should be in the ‘Featured’ section of the Community Directory each week.

The proposed new initiative would introduce a feature through which Status users can discover the contacts they have on other platforms (such as X or in their phone address book), easily connect with them in Status, and start chatting with them via Status in a private, secure, and decentralised way.
To succeed in its mission of bringing freedom of speech to the world, Status needs to succeed in gaining user adoption. With the messaging space being so dependent on ‘network effects’ (how many people would use a messenger app that none of their friends use?), this proposed feature could help bootstrap Status usage by making it trivially easy to connect with people you are already connected with via other social networks inside Status.
While the feature would bring benefits from a UX, user growth, and utility perspective and would be designed to achieve the maximum level of privacy protection possible, it would still reduce the privacy of those choosing to use it to a certain extent. Therefore, like with other Status features that involve any privacy compromise, it would always be optional to use. This is also why we want to get the community’s input, thoughts and ideas about this feature specifically.
