For new joiners, below are some of the thumb rules:
1. Only invest what you can lost. Don’t invest thinking to become millionaire the next day, especially with $100.
2. Many posts will suggest the coin will be $1 - $10 the next day. Work out the maths to understand the market cap. E.g. if the coin circulation is 40 Trillion, in order for the coin to reach $1, it has to be $40 trillion. Bitcoin is the main dominance and no coins should exceed bitcoin values.
3. Don’t panic and sell the coins if you buy at the highest (ATH). Keep it and be patient, you will only lost money when you sell.
4. Understand what each coin you are investing, read the whitepaper and also understand the underlying technologies. If you are investing MEME coins for quick gain / greed, please prepare to risk your capital as well given people investing in MEME coins also aiming for quick gains.
5. Distribute your portfolio to focus 40% on $BTC, 20% $ETH, and remaining on your coins that you preferred. I have invested $SYS and few others as part of 40%. Distribute accordingly based on your risk appetite.
6. Don’t pay money to people claimed as experts such as they had made millions or 1,000% returns. They might dm or offer you services to help you ‘tripled’ your money. Most often than not, these are either scams or not reliable.
7. Invest 20% of your income (making sure you have life necessity covered such as food, rent, etc.). If there are more excesses, you can invest more.
8. Decide how and when to take profits. For coins that you believed in, you can keep buying them (point 7) and hold onto it. Or you can take profits whenever theres increased in your investment (e.g. every 10% increased). The coin will not increased over 1,000% at one go, there’s always a correction. So either you hold, or take profits. Risk of taking profits might be you will be buying back the coins at higher price.
