After the successful launch of World ID 2.0 and the open sourcing of the Worldcoin iris recognition pipeline in mid December, World ID verifications are now available in Singapore via the Orb, the project’s custom hardware device. In addition to World ID verifications, project contributor Tools for Humanity (TFH) has become a member of two of Singapore’s most respected startup and tech associations: ACCESS and the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA). The project launch and association memberships come in the wake of a recent multi-city tour in Asia made by members of the TFH product development team.

OpenAI CEO promotes Crypto Project Worldcoin after Fundraising Report.

Hello Binance square !OpenAI CEO Sam Altman doubled down on his vision for cryptocurrency project Worldcoin, following reports the company was seeking $50 million in funding.

Worldcoin says it aims to create a global identity and financial network. More than 2.6 million people have signed up to have their irises scanned by Worldcoin's "orb" devices in exchange for a digital ID and free cryptocurrency.

Altman appeared as part of a virtual Q&A hosted by fintech-focused investment bank FT Partners on Thursday, a week after crypto news outlet The Block reported that Tools For Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, was seeking to raise $50 million from investors.

The company is raising funds by selling the project's crypto tokens at a discounted rate, according to The Block.

"In a world with a lot of AI, knowing who is human matters more and more," Altman said at the event.

"The belief was and is that as AI becomes an increasingly important part of our lives...the ability to identify unique humans was going to be more and more important."

A spokesperson for Worldcoin did not immediately respond to a request for comment on The Block's report.

The firm previously raised $115 million in a Series C funding round led by Blockchain Capital, alongside a16z crypto, and Bain Capital Crypto.

Various regulators, including in the United Kingdom and Germany, have said they were looking into Worldcoin following its launch in July.

Hello Binance Square! Worldcoin soon back to business in Kenya as co-founder eyes next growth phase
Worldcoin, the multinational cryptocurrency and digital ID firm, is set to resume its operations in Kenya next year following reported successful negotiations with the East African country’s government.

Per a report by Citizen Digital, the firm, whose activities were banned in the country in August over data privacy concerns, has now agreed to meet certain regulatory requirements.

Worldcoin’s activities were halted when Kenyan authorities noticed growing interest in the project which verifies a user’s humanness and uniqueness using their iris biometrics. All those who registered on the platform were issued a digital ID called World ID.

Officials feared about the safety of the biometric data that was collected from hundreds of thousands of Kenyan citizens in exchange for a crypto token after each verification process. About 635,000 Kenyans were said to have downloaded the app as of September.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was among Kenyan authorities who expressed strong reservations against the World ID project, which has also faced criticism elsewhere around the world over data privacy questions, such as in Argentina. Kenyan lawmakers also criticized it saying it was a threat to the country’s statehood.

Now, the company, co-founded by OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Tools for Humanity’s Alex Blania, is said to be ready to get back to full business in Kenya in the first few months of 2024, according to an unnamed source cited by Citizen Digital.
