Bitcoin on Tuesday hit a new all-time high of $72,960, surpassing its previous record of $72,886 from Monday. Bitcoin eased back near $72,200 Tuesday but continues to distance itself from its November 2021 peak of $68,990 and rallied 11% last week. On Friday bitcoin hit a record $70,136, overtaking its Tuesday high of $69,208
Bitcoin had spiked to $49,000 January 11 on the ETF launch day but then fell back into its early December 2023 level prior to the SEC announcement. The world's largest cryptocurrency rebounded about 157% in 2023. Bitcoin is up about 71% so far this year, with most of the gains compounded in February.
Ethereum on Tuesday peaked at $4,092, running up further against December 2021 levels. Ethereum on Friday crossed its $4,000 level for the first time in 26 months. The No. 2 crypto soared 75% in 2024 and is in striking distance of its record high of $4,865 from November 2021.
