According to PANews, Larry Harmon, the founder of the cryptocurrency mixer Helix, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in money laundering activities. The sentencing was handed down by Judge Beryl Howell of the District Court for the District of Columbia. The judge noted that the sentence was lenient due to Harmon's cooperation in the Bitcoin Fog mixer case.
Harmon operated the Helix cryptocurrency mixer on the dark web from 2014 to 2017, during which time he facilitated the laundering of over 350,000 BTC. Helix worked in conjunction with the Grams dark web search engine, which was also operated by Harmon. His arrest in 2020 marked a significant development in the crackdown on illegal cryptocurrency activities, highlighting the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat the use of digital currencies in criminal enterprises.
